Abdominal Radiology Fellowship Program

Adrian Dawkins, MD
Associate Professor of Radiology
Division Chief, Abdominal Radiology
Program Director, Abdominal Radiology Fellowship

The University of Kentucky Department of Radiology is pleased to offer a 1-year fellowship in Abdominal Radiology. This new fellowship is one of the few ACGME-accredited Abdominal Radiology fellowship programs within the country.

Eligible candidates will have completed an ACGME-accredited (or equivalent) diagnostic radiology residency training program and should be board-eligible (or certified) by the American Board of Radiology. All fellows must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Kentucky.

The abdominal radiology fellow can expect to gain experience in all aspects of abdominal radiology, spread across all major imaging modalities. There will also be opportunity to participate in light interventional procedures and mentored scholarly/research activities. Our aim is to mold a true abdominal imaging specialist with the skill-set to practice within any environment, whether academics or private practice.

The abdominal division subscribes to the three core missions of UK HealthCare; Clinical Care, Education and Research. Our medical center enjoys prestige and is the recipient of the 2018 Vizient Rising Star Award for quality. We are fortunate to be replete with abdominal radiology faculty who are experts within the field. Our scholarly activities are readily on display at all major national radiology conferences including RSNA, SRU, SAR, SCBT-MR and AUR to name a few. Our division is represented on several national committees and we maintain healthy relationships with several regional and national facilities to assist with job placement. We work closely with referring clinicians from multiple specialties. Indeed, our faculty are key personnel within several multidisciplinary care conferences, essential in achieving and maintaining our National Cancer Institute status.

Our department is well-equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. We routinely perform MR and Ultrasound Elastography, Multiparametric MRI of the prostate, Iron quantification and Rectal cancer staging at 3 Tesla. Our equipment and protocols are top-notch and our division works harmoniously with physicists and technologists to ensure consistency and quality.  Therefore, it is no surprise that we are accredited by the American College of Radiology as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE).
